Aya
31 years ago - one of the thousands of AI datamodules running the computational systems of Oa is brought online.
7 years ago - the AI datamodule selected to operate the stealth ship Hal Jordan, Kilowog & Ch'p use on their secret mission into Sector 666 begins to discover her own curiosity and desire to help. When Bro'Dee Walker & Razer begin to help them, she builds her own body, taking the name Aya. When they save the lost lanterns, she chooses to stay with Razer.
5 years ago - Aya acompanies Razor & Bro'Dee Walker on their assault on Ryut. imprisoned by the regime, they escape with the space pirate Jack T Chance, and invade the planet. Bleez attempts to stop them. She sacrifices herself to finally end his control over the rage-blood of his followers.
1 year ago - Aya's digital consciousness secretly manifests in the operating systems of the ancient Manhunter tech discovered by Atrocitus.
We've constructed a whole storyline taking quite a bit of lore from the Green Lantern Animated Series, compressing it into a single sector of our galaxy, and using that story as a model to create space for our version of Atrocitus. This actually gives us room to also adapt a few beloved characters from the show. They've both appeared in the comics, so they are totally fair game (not that that is necessarily a requirement, but it's a nice bar to clear)
Aya is obviously the breakout character of the show, so if it's even remotely possible to include her we kind of owe it to the universe to try.

Aya's Animation HistoryAya's comic appearances have introduced her to the overall DC continuity, but none of them are really lore-bearing enough for us to talk about. Instead, we can just focus on the Green Lantern Animated Series. This is where she first showed up; at first as the disembodied voice of the AI system on the Interceptor, the experimental ship Hal & KIilowog hijack to travel into the Frontier Sector to investigate murdered Green Lanterns. When Kilowog tells her she's just a navigational computer and not a real Green Lantern, she makes a body for herself, and within the lore of the show she is, for all intents and purposes, actually a Lantern.
During the course of the show, Aya builds a bond with angsty bad boy Razer ( which accounts for about 94% of the show's fanart). They kind of goes crazy with it... I really can't be any more specific because I absolutely want you to watch this show if you haven't, but suffice to say she kills god. |
Our Aya StoryAya checks so many boxes on the "is this character going to become a fan favorite?" checklist that we really don't have to do anything to her at all. Just like in the TV show, she starts out as the AI for the ship Hal, Kilowog & Ch'p use on their mission into Sector 666. We'll do the same thing, adding in the idea that they actually can't use their rings for this story, making Aya even more important. When they meet Saint Walker & Razer, Aya makes herself a body so she can be more helpful.
The bond between Aya and Razer is almost the entire reason to include these characters, but our timeline format gives us a ton of leeway here. We only say that they achieved their goal, and that Aya chooses to stay in the Sector with him, but there is a LOT of space in that entry for an awful lot to pass between these two. We've created a whole second storyline featuring Saint Walker, Aya, Razer & Jack T Change as they venture into the actual domain of Atrocitus on Ryut, which is a deliberate tribute to a story we all know and love (here's a clue: Saint Walker's Blue Oan Tool manifests as a whip). We're using that story to include Aya's final sacrifice to help free all of Atrocitus's minions. What no one knows, however, is that Aya's consciousness has actually survived. There's absolutely going to be more story with these characters sometime in the near future. They are honestly just too likeable to put down forever. |
