Off all the characters featured in the line-up of the Creature Commandos, Vincent Velcoro is the most regularly depicted member. He was originally called 'Vincent Velcro', but that name obviously became pretty funny once velcro became a regular feature in shoes for six-year-olds. He was also originally a far more traditional-looking vampire, but it's really hard to argue with this new monstrous winged appearance from his post-52 appearance.
Vincent is usually depicted as a former fighter pilot that is given a version of vampirism thank to bizarre experiments. We altered that slightly, making him a death row prisoner. It actually creates a great precedent for the Suicide Squad. In the comics, the Squad actually existed during World War II, and it's not the worst idea to make a small reference to it during our version of the story. Plus, we LOVE the idea that he actually succeeds and earns his pardon, but stays in the fight anyway. It's a great little heroic arc, and we get to watch him and earnest young soldier Warren Griffith be war bros, which just makes for an awesome story. |
