Ferro Lad

2978 - Andrew Nolan is born on Earth.

2989 - 11-year-old Andrew contracts a rare lethal disease that slowly turns his flesh to iron.

2992 - 14-year-old Andrew is given an experimental nanite cure that allows him to convert his body to iron at will.

2995 - 17-year-old Andrew joins the Legion of Super Heroes in their third recruitment drive as Ferro Lad.

2996 - 18-year-old Andrew is killed fighting in the Earthwar with Legion of Super Heroes.

There's some nice simplicity to Ferro Lad:  a guy with super-strength on a team full of Bouncing Boys and Element Lads.  Of course there's a little more to it than that, his ability to turn himself to iron actually predates the most FAMOUS metal-bodied super-strong hero (Colossus) by nine full years.  His popularity wavered from one version of the Legion to another but his most popular versions seem to be when he is depicted as being black.

The actual first black Legion member was Tyroc, but he was created by someone that clearly had a problem with black people, so we're leaving him out.  Instead we're going with the coolest version of Ferro Boy.  Of course... he isn't in the Legion THAT long, which is unfortunate, but we really enjoy the opportunity to include a very cool, uncomplicated character in our version of the Legion.
