"Chuck" is the American Blackhawk. It might seem like he's being forced in there a little bit, as all the other members of the Blackhawks are European pilots from countries directly affected by the Nazis, but there was absolutely a role being played by American Airmen in the European theater even before America's involvement in the War. Specifically, naval pilots served alongside the British Air Service, both as pilots and instructors.
Frankly, we added Chuck for a very specific reason... because an American pilot would be the best way to get a little diversity onto the Blackhawks. Chuck is traditionally a freckle-faced redhead, but the team is full of white European characters. The existence of the insanely cool Tuskegee Airmen speaks to the historic contribution of African American pilots, and it would be very cool if one of them could have joined the Blackhawks. Chuck could very easily fill that role. |
