Morgaine Le Fay traps Merlin in a magical prison. 20-year-old Sir Ystin frees Merlin while on a quest to defeat the ogre Blunderbore. He enchants her horse Vanguard, making him a winged pegasus, and gives her clues to find and claim the magic sword Caliburn.  Merlin promises that Ystin's secret will be safe with him. Forced to make new plans, Morgaine bewitches 42-year-old Arthur Pendragon and gives birth to his son Mordred.
