After the attack on Pearl Harbor, 33-year-old Kent Nelson founds the Justice Society, including 42-year-old Alan Scott, 28-year-old Jay Garrick, 29-year-old Al Pratt, 29-year-old Hippolyta, 31-year-old Rex Tyler, 44-year-old Wesley Dodds, 36-year-old Gavyn, Jim Corrigan, 40-year-old Shiera Hall & 46-year-old Carter Hall, who is elected chairperson.

22-year-old Roy Lincoln goes to work for his father Professor Benjamin Lincoln full time as they attempt to create an experimental new explosive compound. They succeed in creating compound 27-QRZ, but when their lab is raided by nazi saboteurs his father, the only person who knows the formula for 27-QRZ, is killed. Shot in the chest and desperate to keep the saboteurs from acquiring the compound, Roy swallows the only existing sample, altering his body to produce massive chemical explosions upon contact with his skin. Surviving the initial explosions, Roy dons an experimental fibro-wax suit to contain his powers. Despairing that he can’t be allowed to survive, Roy is instead contacted by Uncle Sam who gives him a new purpose to fight overseas with the Freedom Fighters as the Human Bomb.
Uncle Sam manifests upon the US declaration of war after the attack on Pearl Harbor. After the massive loss of life in World War I, he begins traveling the US to find allies to join him, assembling the Freedom Fighters to fight overseas, including 22-year-old Roy Lincoln, 37-year-old John Trujillo, 22-year-old Sandra Knight, 41-year-old Iron Munro, 43-year-old Paul Kirk & 27-year-old Happy Terrill
