​10-year-old Jonah Hex's mother runs away from his abusive, alcoholic father with a traveling salesman.

Brother Johnathan fights to suppress Mexican guerilla fighters while the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo is signed.  He is forced to pursue the American forces of Sterling Price as they advance into Chihuahua after the signing of the treaty, and for the first time fights American soldiers in defense of the Mexican Garrison in the Battle of Santa Cruz de Rosales.  He is gunned down and dies on the battlefield.
