DC Continuity Project
"This is really a very impressive site and collection of data! You and anyone working with you should be very proud." ~ Mark Waid
DC's continuity is a monster. Multiple timelines and 'elseworlds' stories that are or are not canon, depending on which writer you ask. Multiple coexisting Earths that share versions of the same characters, unless they don't share them, or don't exist at all. An ongoing effort to explain continuity gaffes by using in-continuity story arcs that allow you to later reference the original gaffe within your newly repaired continuity. Timeless, ageless characters with sidekicks that age normally.
This is a dense, almost opaque folklore. Over the decades, DC has absorbed dozens of other companies into its tapestry of characters. It's forged whole new corners of its universe over and over and over again. |
It's actually hard to even imagine what a singular, self-contained, logical version of the DC universe would look like, and perhaps that's actually part of the fun, trying to untangle a knot that's forever re-tangling itself.
It's probably not even meant to be sorted out. So we're not even going to try. Instead, We asked ourselves a single question: what would WE write? Which classic stories would build the foundations of the DC universe as WE saw it? What versions of these characters were the best, most iconic versions to US? This project is the result. One timeline. One continuity. The result of hundreds of long conversations with fellow fans, tons of research, math, and love. We have the benefit of hindsight that allows us to gauge how important a story really is as we build a history of the DC universe as we want it to be. In some cases, that meant removing whole swaths of story. In others, it meant inventing new ones. Some of these characters are almost completely rebuilt from the ground up, but the result should be something that immediately feels inherently correct.

Obviously, this took a long time, and it's still ongoing. Tons of content has already been produced and is slowly being added to the site all the time, and of course we're constantly working to track down all the elements of this completely rebuilt DC universe.
We love talking about all our work, and a big part of that is debating the choices we've made with other fans. If you particularly enjoy any of what we've done, or hate it, or if you have ideas for stories that we've skipped over, or you have any opinion at all, you can email us at [email protected]. And of course, you can always follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Hope you have fun!
